Get away and lose yourself in Southeast Texas’ natural outdoors and diverse wildlife in the Big Thicket National Preserve. Enjoy birding, swimming, canoeing, hiking, fishing, and more. Go for a brisk jog to warm up in winter or for a swim to cool down during our warm summers. The Big Thicket National Preserve is a unit of the National Park Service established to protect and preserve biodiversity on 97,000 acres in seven counties of Texas. Big Thicket offers some of the richest diversity of plant life in North America. Natural processes have influenced the region over the millennium. The last Ice Age “pushed” plants from other parts of the country into a close “neighborhood.” Today, plants from the Gulf Coastal Plains, Eastern Forests, and Central Plains share space with species indicative of swamps and bayous.

Gator Country is an alligator theme park that has "Big Al", the largest alligator in captivity in Texas, along with baby alligators that everyone can hold and two alligator snapping turtles that truly appear prehistoric.  See the swiftness and agility of these creatures, fish for gators in the adolescent pond and watch a live alligator show where park volunteers will get up close and personal with the gators.  Gator Country offers tasty Cajun food including fried alligator and a gift shop with T-shirts touting the message "Quick Hands or No Hands."  Hours vary with the season.
